I Read
- The first 100 pages of Undaunted Courage. Very interesting so far.
I Watched
- The series finale of My Boys–the episode hyped as “You don’t want to miss the last two minutes…” and then they didn’t reveal who it was PJ took with her to Italy. Not that I cared–the PJ story lines are always the least entertaining aspect of the program–but you don’t advertise with a “wait ’til you see this!” tease and then show us nothing! Lame.
I Cursed
- Cost Plus World Market for jumping the gun on not one but two holidays: A Halloween display next to a rack of Christmas treats. Cookies, chocolates and mince meat pies that I’m sure will taste just delicious FOUR MONTHS FROM NOW!
- Ragweed. Evil, evil ragweed. My allergies are raging. They haven’t been this bad in years. Right now I’m questioning the efficacy of the four years of allergy shots.
I’ve Been Thankful For
- The few rogue cicadas buzzing in the trees, helping me to maintain the illusion that it’s still summer.
I Recognized the Milestone
- Of my sister Jenny’s one-year anniversary of her first chemotherapy treatment.
I Was Summoned
- For jury duty

I realy liked Undaunted Courage. I think Ambrose poses a lot of interesting “what ifs” and other observations. If you’re into L&C you should also read DeVoto’s edition of their diaries. I also saw a neat book in Oregon that showed aerial photographss of places along their journey.
How is Jenny these days? I’ve been wondering and hoping she’s doing well.
Jury Duty…does this mean you’re going to have to disappear for a while?
Thanks for asking Carrie. Jen is doing very well. Now that she’s in “maintenance mode,” (meaning the doctors visits have tapered off and her strength is back 100%) she’s working full time, resumed her work out schedule and is feeling good.
As far as jury duty, luckily here in Illinois, we have “one day, one trial” system, which means if you show up for and aren’t selected for a trial, you’re done! I’m an alternate, so a phone call the day before may get me out of it altogether.
