All the Pretty Horses

Cormac McCarthy (1992)

The winner of last year’s Pulitzer Prize, filled with memorable, entertaining and poignant characters. A young man wants nothing more than to own some horses and live off the land in Texas, but after hitching up with a reckless ne’er-do-well, and journeying south of the border, this western “road story” takes a tragic turn.

  1. Just a side comment on how powerful McArthy’s writing can be. William Gibson was doing a signing and someone asked him what he was reading. He mentioned several books, one of them being “Blood Meridian” by Cormac McArthy, so naturally I read it. The way I describe this book is – “It is the most depraved book I have ever read.” Bone-chilling in its power. Dark, dark, dark.

  2. I’d forgotten about this book. I’ll have to add that to my list of Must Reads for when i’m in the mood to take a walk on the dark side.
