Angle of Repose

Wallace Stegner (1971)

I have my book club to thank for introducing me to Wallace Stegner and now I want to read everything by this author. Talk about feeling like you really know the characters in a book. The story covers decades of two people’s life together, and apart, as they try to settle throughout the West and Pacific Northwest, during the early years of prospecting. Beautifully told, bouncing back and forth between the rugged past that is the majority of the story and the “present,” in which an invalid history teacher attempts to write the story of his grandparents.
