A Far Cry from Kensington

Muriel Spark  (1988)

I try to read at least one Spark novel a year, but I’m pacing myself because I want them to last. A Far Cry from Kensington centers on the eccentric characters living in a London boarding house in the 1950s, and in particular on one widow whose life becomes entangled with her neighbors’ when she extends herself a bit too far. This comedy/mystery is an entertaining slice of middle-class British life in the years following the war.
