The Soloist

Mark Salzman  (1994)

A former musical prodigy, whose promising career was cut short years ago, is now a private cello teacher. His life is shaken-up when events cause him to reflect on his past and examine the reason for the loss of his musical gift. The story shifts between the ex-cellist’s stint as a juror on a bizarre murder trial, and his struggles to get through to his newest pupil, a nine-year-old Korean boy whose parents wish to rush the child into the public performance.
