Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, The Definitive Edition

Anne Frank (1995)

A new edition of what may be the most famous diary every written was released this year with original passages restored to the text. I’ve included it on the list to encourage even those of you who have read this book before to read it again. If you’re like me, you read this diary when you were around Anne’s age. Rereading it as an adult is a different and moving experience. When the book was originally published, many passages that dealt with Anne’s budding sexuality and her feelings of anger toward her mother (as with any typical teenager) were eliminated by her father, out of respect for the dead. For the first time, they are included in this expanded edition of the original diary.
