Larry Watson (1995)
A sort of prequel to Montana 1948, which appeared on last year’s Best Of list. The Hayden family roots are given further depth through a series of vignettes which vividly capture life on the Great Plains during the first half of this century. Unlike Montana 1948, which was plot driven, telling the story of a young boy’s coming of age when a family secret is revealed, Justice is a character study, leaping back and forth between generations.
