Review: South: Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition (1919)

UK, Frank Hurley

This documentary, released just three years after Shackleton and crew returned from their ordeal in the Antarctic, was directed by the cinematographer / photographer on the Endurance expedition. The imagery is eerie and fascinating. I saw it at the Film Center in a restored print, which is now available on DVD.
