First Words

In the short polar summer of 1911-1912, five Britons and five Norwegians raced each other to the bottom of the world. Only the Norwegians returned.

  1. I was just reading about the cold at the pole in a book called “It’s Raining Frogs and Fishes,” by Jerry Dennis and Glenn Wolff. The coldest temperature ever recorded on earth was in Antarctica: minus 127 degrees F. Explorers have written that it’s so cold their fillings have popped out and their teeth have split into pieces.
