A friend of mine is teaching a writing course at an open-enrollment college in Chicago. She got her student evaluations back, on which one of them had written the notation “She knows her shit.”
My first thought was, “Gee I must be old, because I never would have used the s-word in a teacher evaluation.”
Her first thought was, “…reflects well on my ability to teach them how to write, doesn’t it?”

And it certainly cuts down on her competition in the field of journalism—with some college kids, nothing is cooler than trying to shock–and they aren’t very creative at doing that!
