Review: The Life of Emile Zola (1937)

Warner Bros. gave Émile Zola the big screen biopic treatment in this Academy Award-winning film starring Paul Muni in the title role. Even though it clocks in at less than two hours, this sprint through the life of the famous French writer (with a major detour on the Dreyfus affair) seemed a lot longer. It looked good, Muni with excellent, but I was never fully engaged in the story.

It did make me curious to pull my copy of Nana off the shelf and finally give it a read. [**1/2 out of 5]
