I must have known I’d miss half of Lyric’s current opera season when I signed up for season tickets to Chicago Opera Theatre’s 2006 season last year. They hooked me with their coming production of John Adams’ Nixon in China which I’ve long wanted to see.
Tonight I’ll attend the opening night performance of The Padlock/Dido and Aeneas, which I’m looking forward to despite the fact that I know absolutely nothing about either piece. Something new. I’m also looking forward to seeing the inside of the new Harris Theater in Millennium Park.
Visiting the COT website this morning, I discovered their general director, Brian Dickie, has a blog, which is an entertaining and interesting glimpse behind the scenes. I’m surprised more cultural organizations around town don’t use blogs as a way to connect with their audience by tapping into the creative process. It’s a great medium for something like this and really helps to generate interest and buzz. Especially if you keep up on it regularly, which Dickie seems to do.
