Review: The Cruise (1998)

An off-beat documentary directed by Bennett Miller, the director of last year’s celebrated Capote. This low budget film follows around NYC tour guide Timothy “Speed” Levitch, a thoroughly original New York philosopher, who often seems two steps removed from the folks in Cinemania.

Levitch spouts all manner of trivia, fact, and philosophy from the top of a double-decker tour bus. His speech pattern is as unusual as his outlook on modern life, urban living, and the city he loves. An entertaining personal glimpse of pre-9/11 Manhattan. [***1/2 out of 5]
