In the vein of Michael Apted’s 7-Up series, this personal documentary reunites the filmmaker with his 4-year-old subject over 30 years later. A thought provoking slice-of-life.
In 1969, first-time filmmaker Ralph Arlyck made a short film about his four-year-old downstairs neighbor. A true child of the Hippie Generation, this kid ran wild in Castro Street. Decades later, Arlyck returned to San Francisco to see how the neighborhood had changed and to reunite with Sean. What results is a fascinating slice-of-life documentary that reveals as much about the filmmaker as his subject. [***1/2 out of 5]
I’ll have to check that out. I love the 7-Up series.
