I was tromping around downtown Chicago today and this was the first of many department stores that I saw with isolated sections of the store already decked out for the holidays. Nothing pisses me off more with each passing year than the crass marketing of the holiday season as it creeps further and further into October. Christmas before Halloween?!?! That’s just wrong wrong wrong.
I’m making a mental note of those stores that have busted out the Christmas cheer way too soon and I’m vowing not to shop there again until after the holidays, if at all. And isn’t it funny how these offending stores always seem to be the big chains and never the mom and pop shops?
So far my shopping ban includes Pier 1 and World Market (the earliest offenders I’ve seen), Macy’s and today’s Saturday photo, Bloomingdales. The only store I actually shopped in today was Nordstrom, where I didn’t see a speck of tinsel, garland or Christmas crap anywhere, and then I remembered that they have a company policy to withhold holiday decor until after Thanksgiving–the way it should be.
Bah humbug to those retailers. I haven’t seen any Christmas yet which pleases me. I’m like you in thinking that before Halloween is too soon.
Bravo! Bravo! (Standing ovation from me). Add Costco to the list.
I found your blog through NaBloPoMo’s Blogroll and loved your header.
Very, very funny. Then I saw the offending tree and had to read.
Again, I say to you: Bravo! I’ll boycott with you.
