Review: The Full Cupboard of Life

Alexander McCall Smith
(2003)

As with the fifth installment in any series, you might expect author Robert McCall Smith and his character Mma Ramotswe to settle into a predictable routine. Thankfully, that’s not the case for this episode from The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.

It’s always a pleasure catching up with Precious, her fiancé Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni, and trusty assistant Mma Makutsi. McCall Smith provides enough character development and sweet surprises to make The Full Cupboard of Life a rewarding return visit to Botswana and a promising prelude of stories to come. A delight from start to finish.
