Sarah Vowell (2008)
This book was a real disappointment, so much so that I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. I find Vowell’s contributions to the NPR radio program This American Life entertaining, and I’d enjoyed a few of her newspaper pieces, so I looked forward to reading her examination of the Puritans and their settlement in America. It’s just the sort of historical examination I usually like, but something about the author’s tone became grating and the subject just didn’t draw me in.
