I’m pretty sure there’s no flipping way I’ll have the guts to step out on the Sears Tower glass-bottom Skydeck once it opens next month. A mere 1-1/2 inches of glass will separate you and the 1,353 drop to the street below.
That’s 103 stories of air.
I’m amazed it was possible to retrofit the Sears Tower Skydeck in this way. To add to the puzzlement, each of the four 4.3-foot balconies are retractable! You can see an artist’s rendering of the experience here. (That’s the Chicago River waaaay down below.)
Just looking at the picture makes me a bit queasy. I think that’s about as close as I’m ever likely to get.
I don’t think you could pay me enough money to step out there. Same with that ledge over the Grand Canyon.
