We've had a spate of warm weather these last few days and yesterday I took advantage of it to remove the holiday lights from the backyard evergreens.
It wasn't until I was standing right next to the witchhazel tree that I noticed it's blooming!
I'd completely forgotten that it would be the first thing to bloom in the new backyard and sure enough, according to it's late winter/early spring timetable, the tiniest of blooms have sprung up all over the tree.
They're a lovely reddish color and look more like spent flowers than your typical blooms, but that's probably self-preservation, since we could still get snow before we're truly into spring here.
