Letter Writer

JD had very little interest in practicing writing her letters until we hit on the idea of actually writing letters.

This she was really into. It wasn’t a chore, it was fun! She’d tell me what she wanted to say, I’d mark out the dashes on the page and together we’d sound out the words as she wrote them out. (The dashes were my idea to help her keep the letters small enough that she wouldn’t run off the page, a very frustrating experience for the budding author.)

So far, most of her letters have followed along the lines of the one above, inquiring as to the well-being of the feline in the household.

Here she is opening a return letter. Positive reinforcement.

As part of our regularly scheduled Tuesday beer night, we tapped the growler of Sierra Nevada Life & Limb (an American Strong Ale, a joint production by SN and Dogfish Head breweries) that we brought back from The Beer Trappe in Lexington. Very, very tasty stuff.

JD and I took a trip to The Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum on the Chicago River, which in my opinion isone of the best museums in the city. From the gears at river level that raise and lower the bridge we traveled up four flights to the top of the bridgehouse for a great view of the river, the Wrigley Building, Tribune and Trump Towers and south down Michigan Avenue.

The last time I was in the Bridgehouse, shortly after it opened in 2006, the Trump Tower looked like this. The view is quite different now.

JD and I met some friends at the playground. I had a window of about ten seconds when they weren’t all in motion to catch the group all together.

JD sent me home with a bunch of friends. In the past few weeks she’s been on this kick where she’s very generous with her possessions, giving them away. Every day, we go through this ritual where she insists I take things home, often for my cats to play with, and she won’t take no for an answer.

Made a pilgrimage to the Beer Trappe in Lexington to meet some friends over a few rounds. Tried a few new beers and brought home a few more to try. The company and the libation made for a perfect Saturday afternoon.

On the Bourbon Trail

I took a tour of the Four Roses Distillery and as it’s summer, there was nothing under production; it’s too hot and the Kentucky limestone water used to make the bourbon is too warm to make the good stuff. This made for a decidedly less interesting tour.
