For the second year in a row, I’m a National Blog Posting Month winner. My reward for posting every day in November (randomly selected from thousands of blogs participating) is a $5 gift certificate from Amazon. Let’s see, that means my blog earned me 16.6 cents a day! A new high. Woot woot!
It’s that time of year again!
The Day of the Dead kicks off another National Blog Posting Month and I’m just crazy enough to think I might be able to go two-for-two. Last year I met the challenge and posted to my blog every day in November. Coming up with content is never a problem for me; finding the time to write it up is another thing. This month I suspect my biggest problem will be remembering each day to post at all.
I figured this challenge might be just the thing I needed to get me back in the groove of posting every day. My traffic and RSS feed subscriptions are also down and I’m hoping joining in the NaBloPoMo fun will help jump-start my stats. Cause if I told you it didn’t matter at all, I’d be lying.
Lord knows I have plenty of book, movie, TV, and music reviews floating around in my head, not to mention photos to share. And I’ve recently started playing around with iMovie for the first time, so there may be a video or two to share this month. Now, to get to it!
If you don’t see the new design for this blog, hit refresh. It’s all new baby!
I’m home sick today, so I’ve been tinkering with my blog, putting finishing touches on a new layout. Nothing fancy, nothing radical. Just a cleaner look with a typeface I like better and a homegrown banner. For years I’ve been meaning to create my own. Recently, I finally took the first baby steps in Photoshop.
As you can see from the banner, I’m already looking forward to warmer days on the lake. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the six inches of snow we got last night.
Huzzah! National Blog Posting Month is here!
Today, the three thousand-plus bloggers (myself included) who’ve joined NaBloPoMo are posting their kick-off entry, most likely announcing their intention to take up the challenge of making a daily post to their blog each day in November. And here is mine.
I have dozens of book, TV and movies reviews I’ve been meaning to write and figured NaBloPoMo might be a good way to motivate myself to do a little catching up. In addition, joining the group has had the added and unexpected benefit of introducing this blog to new friends and making new blog acquaintances both near and far as I visit others who are participating.
So, wish me luck. It shouldn’t be hard for me to come up with stuff to blog about. The greatest challenge will be remembering to make the time to do it. And please, don’t hesitate to comment. A little positive reinforcement in the way of comments to this blog is always and gratefully appreciated.
Happy NaBloPoMo all!
If you don’t see the new look, hit refresh and all will be revealed.
I’ve been meaning to tidy up the old website for a while now. The sidebar had become the virtual equivalent of the junk closet. Just throw it over there; I’ll deal with it later. TypePad’s addition of a few new blog design choices was just the jump-start I needed. I also used their new Pages feature to properly incorporate my blogroll, and links to my movie, TV and book reviews.
The photo album links (many of which were dead ends) have been removed. One of these days I’ll incorporate those images over on my Flickr site, which I find a much faster and easier way to play with photos than TypePad photo albums. Plus, you can comment on photos there, something TypePad has yet to make part of their photo feature.
One of these days I’ll design my own banner (but I’ve been saying that for years) so in the meantime, this will do nicely.
I’ve got another piece up on The Beachwood Reporter–this one is on HBO’s John From Cincinnati.
I’m baaack! Woosh, what a week. I’m exhausted. Between the office move and all the odds and ends at home, I’m beat. The weekend didn’t allow for much recoup time, though yoga yesterday felt terrific. My body really needed it.
Unfortunately, I didn’t catch up much on sleep. Last night I was up waaaay too late watching and then writing about, of all things, my least favorite TV–the Academy Awards. I rarely, if ever, watch this pointless Hollywood popularity contest. At most I’ll DVR it so I can fast forward to the good parts after the fact. Last night I made an exception so I could contribute to the Beachwood Reporter’s Oscar coverage. Definitely a worth cause.
You can check it out here. And watch for more stuff coming soon!
New year, new look. I’d had the last version of my blog for about a year so it was time for a change. One of these days I’ll finally get around to designing a banner of my own.
I know I recently saw the documentary on Jonestown, but does this strike anyone else as sending the wrong message and (excuse the pun) in bad taste?

For a while now I’ve been watching the numbers on my blog, wondering when the day would come when the number of comments to this blog would exceed the number of posts. As of this entry, there are 1397 posts to this blog and the number of comments is closing in fast.
