New On DVD This Week

Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (1964)
A gothic horror jem starring Bette Davis as the faded southern belle who may or may not have murdered her lover many years ago. The mentally unstable woman is tended to by her cousin, Olivia de Havilland, who may or may not be as sweet as she seems. A must-see for anyone who enjoyed What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?.

Kung Fu Hustle( 2004)
A crazy hyper-kinetic combination of martial arts action, classic comedy and axe-wielding dance moves. Read my review.

And from last week’s new releases:

Downfall( 2004)
Bruno Ganz gives a riveting performance as Hitler in his last days in the bunker. Read my review.

The Complete Thin Man Collection (1934-1947)
Finally, all five films are available on DVD! William Powell and Myrna Loy were never better then when they were teamed together as Nick and Nora Charles, the swankiest pair of highbrow detectives. I’ve seen the first in the series many times, but it’s been years since I ran through all five. Come wintertime, I plan to rent them all, build up the fire, make a pitcher of martinis, and spend some quality time with one of my favorite screen duos.

  1. When I’m in “the home” I expect you to bring me thermos of martinis and a steady diet of films. My time will be limited but you will be able to select all the best from your vast exposure.

  2. Hey I love your new look! Very hot. I missed your Harry Potter review. What did you think? I was thrown into a deep funk by the ending, but I’m hopeful for the future.

  3. Thanks Matt. Yeah, I needed a change.
Raja, at the rate you’re going, you’ll be bringing the martinis and movies to my “home” long before you’re in one.
